What were Captain Cook’s two missions? The first was to travel to Tahiti to observe the transit of Venus, found land, he was to chart it.

In your own words, explain how a fathom was used to calculate the depth of the water? They used it by there is a fathom line or curve. They join all the lines together that means the water is the same depth.
Do you think this was a clever technology of the time? How might you have suggested sailors measure the depth of the water? Yes because it would help them a lot with finding sunken ships.
Opinion Paragraph: Do you think that early explorers such as Captain Cook were skilled Mathematicians? Why or why not? What evidence can you provide from the text to support your ideas. Yes because they needed to read the map and all the numbers. They need to be able to read a map or you cant find where to go.
